New scientific research shows that outdoor exercise is “life-changing”. Jo Barton, who specialises in studying outdoor exercise at the University of Essex, says “Mood is integral to daily life. It strongly influences happiness and how we cope with stress. Exercising in nature lifts your mood and boosts self-esteem. Research shows this is true regardless of weather, where you are, and how long you exercise outside.” Which is great news for limiting the winter blues.
Also new research . Martyn Standage, an expert in motivation in health and fitness at Bath University, shows that exercising outdoors leads to a greater feeling of vitality, both physical and mental energy. His research has shown that people use more energy throughout days when they have exercised outdoors. Which is great news because this means it blasts fat for longer, raising metabolism and re-energising the mind.
