Vitamin D deficiency in winter
Vitamin D deficiency is a common problem in the UK, especially in winter – apparently more than half of the population has insufficient levels. Sunlight is the main provider – a problem when most of us don’t venture outside so often in the colder months.
Linked to better skin and hair, more positive moods and good bone health, Vitamin D also helps prevent breast cancer and osteoporosis. We want some of this tonic! So we say get outside as much as possible this Christmas break – wrap up warm with thin layers, a woolly hat, ski-gloves and thick socks – take the family for a scenic walk through the snowy winter wonderland and stock up on your vitamin D reserves for good health.
